And how to achieve them with COSMOS LAC sprays and minimal equipment!

Yiorgos Lanthimos and his film Poor Things enchanted audience and critics for its unique direction, great performances, but also for its exceptional set design aesthetic, which takes us from grotesque, black and white sets to colorful, bright and surreal worlds. The main character Bella Baxter, with Emma Stone’s incredible performance, extraordinary costumes, and boundless energy for life, escapes from the house she was imprisoned in and takes us on a journey with her, filling our artistic engines with fuel.

If you’re one of those who were captivated by the settings and mythical worlds of Poor Things, these ideas will inspire you to transform your space into a Lanthimos-style setting easily and economically, with COSMOS LAC spray paint and a few more materials.

#1 VICTORIAN-STYLE CANDLESTICKS

There are many references to the conservative Victorian era, both in props and clothing. Bella manages to shoot them down in an innocent, unique, and unconventional way. Craft projects with a contrast between the classical and the modern. Find old ornaments, e.g. candlesticks, and paint them with a pastel color from the CHALK EFFECT line to achieve the retro effect. After it’s thoroughly dry, spray it haphazardly with GOLD EFFECT spray paint to create bold gold details.

#2 “TWEAKED” GLOBE

After escaping from the home she has lived in for as long as she can remember, Bella travels to discover the world, and herself. Alexandria, Lisbon, and Paris are the stations of her personal exploration, where her thirst for life and vivid landscapes prevail.

Explore creatively the most iconic and vintage travel object: a globe! Use stencils to create unique color and shape variations, which will give the surreal effect of the film. You can stick pins in different places to give your project a 3D effect. Opt for shades from the EASY MAX line to achieve the perfect balance between glossy and matte finishes.

#3 SURREAL CLOUD LIGHT

In this dream world, pastel shades, as well as large volumes in clothes and objects, create a bittersweet effect where dreams dominate. Create a DIY lamp, taking a classic paper lamp as a base. Glue cotton tassels around the perimeter after rolling it out far enough with your hands and apply CHALK EFFECT CLOUDY WHITE and varnish to set the shape. Then choose pastel shades from the EASY MAX line and apply them in various areas, creating a gradient, surreal effect.

THE COLOUR PALETTE OF POOR THINGS

Whatever object you’ve envisioned transforming, choosing the right colors and textures, as they appear vividly in the heroine’s dresses and props, will achieve the aesthetic of Poor Things.
